Dr Jan van Laar is a staff member of the Clinical Immunology at the Department of Internal Medicine and Head of the outpatient Clinic of the Clinical Immunology at the Erasmus Medical Center, Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He is Consultant for Clinical Immunology at several other hospitals.
He completed his medical degree in 1994 at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam. He received his registration in Internal Medicine in 2001 and defended his PhD in 1996 on the subject 'Modulations or 5-fluorouracil and 5-fluoro-2'-deoxyuridine', after which he was registered as Clinical Oncologist and later in 2006 as Clinical Immunologist.
Dr. van Laar's research interests include clinical and basic aspects of inflammatory immune-mediated diseases, including Behçet's disease, non-infectious eye diseases, sarcoidosis, IgG4 related disease, histiocytic disorders and sarcoidosis. He has published widely on these subjects. Dr van Laar is currently head of the Academic Center of Excellence for Behçet's disease in the Netherlands.
Dr van Laar has presented on many international lectures, authored or co-authored 55 articles published in inter(national) journals as well as book chapters.
