Professor Gulsen Akman-Demir has graduated from Istanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, and completed her neurology residency training at the neurology departmend of the same hospital. In 2000 she became associate professor of neurology, and in 2006 she was awarded full professorship at Isanbul University, Istanbul Faculty of Medicine. After 2011, as an emeritus professor, she continued her medical career at Istanbul Bilim University Medical School. She is also consultant professor at Istanbul Bezmialem University for neuroinflammatory and demyelinating disorders. Since her residency, Dr. Akman-Demir has been interested in neuro-Behcet's disease and among her over 100 published manuscripts, about half is about neuro-Behcet's disease. Dr. Akman-Demir is the co-author of the manuscript "Diagnosis and management of Neuro-Behçet's disease: international consensus recommendations", which was published in 2014 in Journal of Neurology. She is the co-chair of Neuro-Behcet study group of International Society of Behcet's Disease, and chair of Neuro-Behcet study group of Turkish Neurological Society.
